Roy served in the RCAF near the end of World War 2 and was stationed at Souris, Manitoba. In the early 1950’s, Roy moved his family from Beinfait, Saskatchewan to the Rowley area to farm with his brother for a while. Roy had several occupations in those early Alberta years from cutting meat to selling cars to operating a grader for the M.D. of Starland. The dirt “was in his blood”-purchasing a gravel truck and loader. He moved his family to Drumheller in 1963 and “set up shop”. He operated his business in Drumheller area until the mid to late 1980’s. By this time he had divorced and met Gail. Then in 1992 Roy and Gail moved to Irricana. Roy enjoyed visiting with people always had a little saying or poem to recite, especially at his favourite watering holes in the valley, Strathmore and Airdrie, watching a Blue Jays game, travelling and watching the grandchildren. He was extremely proud of his 70 year membership in the Royal Canadian Legion- the majority of which were held with the Royal Canadian Legion Branch # 22, Drumheller. A Memorial Service for Roy will be held at 3:00 P.M., Saturday April 23, 2016 at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch # 22, Drumheller, 295 Centre Street. In Lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Royal Canadian Legion Branch Poppy Fund, 1-4539 6th Street N.E., Calgary, Alberta T2E 3Z6. Courtney-Winter’s Funeral Homes are in care of the arrangements.
