McLELLAN
Christopher Michael

September 12, 2017

Christopher passed away suddenly on Tuesday, September 12, 2017 in Airdrie, AB at the age of 35. Christopher will be lovingly remembered by family and friends. Christopher was born in Drumheller and knew at an early age how special the Canadian Badlands are and pursued a career in tourism and marketing development after graduating from the University of Calgary. Christopher used his wealth of knowledge and heritage to promote the Canadian Badlands to visitors around the world. He worked with the Canadian Badlands Passion Play for more than 10 years. His role there ranged from ticketing, marketing, logistics, and gift shop management. He also had a leading role in getting the Canadian Icons in the Canadian Badlands concerts project off the ground. He ran many successful marketing campaigns for the Canadian Badlands big and small including the Spirit of the Badlands with Tom Jackson. He was instrumental in product development and ran the Visitor Information Centers for years. He drove the highways from Oyen to Milk River, east to Cypress Hills, west to Lethbridge, and up to Stettler with a passion to promote the place he calls home. Christopher is the spirit of the Badlands. Tom Jackson has quoted that the Badlands change people. Christopher is part of that spirit. A Celebration of Christopher’s Life will be held at a later date. Messages of condolence may be left for the family at www.myalternatives.ca. Serving Drumheller and Surrounding Areas since 1997. HOBBSJoyce

HOBBS
Joyce Virginia
(nee Swallow)

February 20, 1930 Rowley, Alberta -  September 27, 2017 Calgary, Alberta

Joyce Hobbs (nee Swallow) was reunited with her husband of nearly sixty-four years, when she passed away peacefully at the age of 87 years on Friday, September 27, 2017. Joyce was born and raised on the family farm in Rowley, Alberta where she also eventually married the love of her life, Allan Hobbs. Allan’s career required them to live in the city but Joyce was a prairie girl at heart. So, after Allan retired, they spent most summers planting and tending a garden on their Rowley property and socializing with family and friends. Joyce was instrumental in preserving Rowley’s history, collecting artifacts and creating exhibits in the old school house and museum. Joyce enjoyed playing cards, especially Crib and Yahtzee. She loved gardening and her home looked like a greenhouse, with bountiful plants in every room. Joyce won many awards at rural competitions for her magnificent potted flower entries. As a couple, Joyce and Allan were very sociable, participating in church activities, round and square-dancing, curling, bowling and golfing; but Joyce was really in her ‘element’ as a mother and homemaker, baking and sewing. When a relative needed a place to live, Joyce welcomed them with open arms. Joyce will forever be remembered and cherished by her loving family; sons Rory and Scott (Judy), and daughter Coralee Hobbs. Joyce was blessed with six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren, all of whom she adored and enjoyed more than anything. Joyce was predeceased by her loving husband Allan, and daughter Shona Bishop. Funeral Services will be held at St. David’s United Church (3303 Capitol Hill Crescent N.W.) on Tuesday, October 24, 2017 at 1:00p.m. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com. Many charities benefited from Joyce’s generosity so if desired, please donate to a charity close to your heart, in her memory. In living memory of Joyce Hobbs, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park by McINNIS & HOLLOWAY FUNERAL HOMES, Chapel of the Bells, 2720 CENTRE STREET NORTH, Telephone: 403-276-2296.

Morrin, Alberta

Pincher Creek, Alberta

It is with great sadness that we share the news that Don passed away Wednesday, November 8, 2017 at the age of 80. Don’s day job was working for ICBC for more than thirty years, but his main passion was hockey. Spending most of his early years playing in the senior leagues of Alberta where he was known as “Boomer”, for both his toughness and goal scoring. To put money and potato salad on the table for his young family, he worked as a body-man for auto body shops across the province. Relocating to Cranbrook in the early 70’s, he was a primary “defense” fixture in the East Kootenay’s Oldtimers hockey league well into his 60’s, played on the VOT (Very Old Timers) team and finally hung up the skates in his late 60’s after a number of years of refereeing minor hockey. Don had a huge love for the sport of golf. Many, many hours were spent at his beloved Cranbrook Golf Course, on the annual Osoyoos pilgrimage and touring courses on his snowbird drive to Mazatlan, Mexico. Don was also an avid fisherman with some of his happiest days out on the lake with his wife Joan. Nothing made Don prouder than to talk about his boys. There was never a doubt as to the love that he had for his three sons. Don is survived by his sons and daughters-in-law Trent and Nicole of Tunis, and Barry and Gladys of Frank and by his sister, Esme of Wetaskiwin and his brother Reg (Diane) of Westville, Nova Scotia. Heather Ann

November 21, 1960 – November 11, 2017

Heather Ann Franciotti passed away peacefully on November 11, 2017 at the Red Deer Regional Hospital. Heather will be sadly missed by her three equally loved children – Jennifer Andrew (Matthew), Joelle McLellan, Dakota Franciotti, her three beautiful grandchildren – Ella, Easton, and Ailsa, her loving partner Barry Pozzo, Sister Nicole (Mike) Stol, Brothers Chuck (Anita) and Mac Von, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her mother Ann, father Charles, and nephew Derek. Heather was born in London, England and immigrated to Canada at the age of 9. She grew up in Calgary, Alberta and later settled in Drumheller where she had her family and thrived on being the social butterfly of the community. She worked for numerous businesses in customer relations and when she could no longer work due to her illness, she continued to spread her vibrant smile and love for people by volunteering in the community and participating in clubs and activities. She could be found taking tickets at the Drumheller Dragons games, swimming with the morning mermaids and dangling with her friends in the evening at the pool, dressing up with the Crown Jewels, leading the charge with seniors walking club and gallivanting to the shops everyday on her circuit around town. Her home was always open to everyone who needed a place to land. Those who needed a bite to eat were always invited to “Sunday Night Suppers”; however, there was always a “Moms Rule” where you knew there would be a job to be done and it was never little. She was always known for her flamboyant style and personality and there was always room to be more accessorized. She appointed herself as “Glamma Diva” because she was always too young, glamorous and fabulous to be called Grandma!
